Nadja & Tim: A Love Story Across an Ocean

A love story that began with a message thousands of miles apart came together at a private ranch in Southern Arizona with a promise of forever.

They met on "Conversation Exchange", a language learning website. Tim had recently started learning German from his home in New Mexico when he happened upon Nadja’s profile on the day she created it from her home in Switzerland. She received around 60 messages that day, but Tim was the first person to write—and the only one to write more than a sentence or two.

They had never met in person, but something clicked.

Over those first few months, their messages grew into what Nadja describes as “a novel’s worth” of conversation. They discovered just how much they had in common and, little by little, a deep connection became something more.

Then came their first video conversation.

Tim remembers hearing Nadja’s voice for the first time. He thought it was the sweetest voice he had ever heard. When that voice was paired with her smile, his heart was officially lost.

Eventually, their love story crossed the Atlantic.

When it came time to plan their fall wedding, they booked Agua Linda Farm without ever seeing it in person. Nadja and Tim wanted a wedding that felt verdant, peaceful, private and relaxed. They had looked at venues in Tim’s home state of New Mexico, but many felt overpriced without offering the atmosphere and amenities they were looking for.

When they found Agua Linda, the combination of lush green surroundings in the Southern Arizona climate felt right. When they saw that we offered a Micro Wedding package with all the details taken care of, they knew they could have a beautiful, thoughtfully planned celebration without taking on all of the headaches that can come with planning a wedding from across the world. They had found the space to begin the next chapter of their novel.

A Romantic Micro Wedding in the Grove

Most weddings at Agua Linda move from our Ceremony Grove to our spacious Reception Garden with its large dance floor and room for a hundred or more guests. This event was better suited to something different - with just 20 people, Nadja and Tim envisioned a romantic, forest-like setting for their celebration with one long table set for dinner.

As they shared their vision of their day with me, I suggested that they have their entire wedding in the grove rather than move to our reception garden after the ceremony. They didn't need the large, open space of our reception garden or a big dance floor and I knew the trees in the grove would be a perfect match for the day they envisioned! We strung cafe lights in the trees and suspended a chandelier from a branch to illuminate their cake. In leu of our usual dance floor, we placed a patchwork of rungs on the grass. The acre and a half was spacious enough to have a dedicated space for the ceremony beneath a giant mesquite tree with views of our pastures and the mountains beyond and a separate area for cocktails, a little dancing and a long table set for dinner. The day simply flowed from one intimate moment into the next under a canopy of trees in The Grove.

Capturing the Day

Our Micro package includes my team that work seamlessly together - set up, decorating, florals, catering, bar service, music - all are included and for this couple, I encouraged them to have Jasmine of The Loew Light Photography photograph the day. As our daughter, she knows the space and us better than anyone - who better to navigate the quiet, personal moments than her? And Jasmine’s photographs captured it all BEAUTIFULLY! There is something almost painfully romantic about these images—the soft light, the flowers, the details and, most of all, the sense of intimacy and connection between these two people, so much in love.

Getting Ready in the French-Inspired Dressing Room

The day began quietly, with Nadja getting ready in our French-inspired bridal dressing room.

There was no bustle of a large bridal party or crowd of guests arriving. Just the bride, the quiet anticipation of the day ahead and Jasmine capturing those early moments as Nadja readied herself.

That quiet feeling carried through the rest of the day.

Dinner Under the Trees

Café à la C’Art served a plated, multi-course dinner on my collection of fine china, turning the reception into an elegant dinner party.

The tables looked full and bountiful layered with flowers that I arranged, set with my collection of fine, vintage china, sterling silver flatware, glassware, candles and delicate doilies.

The Magic After Dark

As evening settled in, the atmosphere became even more magical.

The cafe lights, chandelier and candle light created a soft, gentle glow.

The entire group sat together at one table, sharing a meal and, as new family connections were made, getting to know one another.

There was no rush.

No need to move a crowd from one part of the property to another. No large production happening around them.

Just a small group, a beautiful table, a grove lit by candles and cafe lights, and a newly married couple at the center of it all.

The Team

Jasmine of Loew Light Photography quietly captured the day—the details, the people, the laughter and the moments between them—without disrupting the peaceful feeling.

Coordination and styling were by me, Laurel of Agua Linda Farm, bringing together the flowers, vintage china, doilies, tables and other details that made the grove feel full and abundant.

Cafe A La C'Art served a delicious plated meal and their in-house bakery provided the cake.

My husband, Stewart of Loew Co. Performance Systems played soft background music.

Our in-house bar service mixed custom cocktails.
